One week in the books. A big lesson I learned this week was how important cognizance of historical context is in design and construction in Charleston. In my introduction to the office, I saw a number of physical models built for the Charleston BAR process. In my previous internships, historical context did not really play a role - at least not as much as it does here. It is an added dynamic in the design process which is almost a double edged sword. It can provide valuable design precedents but it can also slow down the process.
