How do you build a practice that is adaptable to change?

How will you build a practice that ___________?

I think this question is more important to me compare the other two questions. After the discussion with my mentor and the conversion with my coworker, there are a couple elements that I agree with them and also I think is important for a practice that is adaptable to change.

1. Secure design principles

- I think we should know the passion and goals of the firm, and maintain the quality of these goals all the time.

2. Keeping up technology

- Technology is very helpful for us to present our ideas to the clients, and they can easily understand the design through 3d model, renders, and drawings.

3. Flexible on design typologies

- I think we should not just focus on one typology of architecture all the time. During a recession, commercial project would go away slow and residential project would go away quick.

4. Diversity

- I think not just the design typologies had to be diversity, and people also should be diversified. Everyone had different backgrounds and experiences, each can provide different aspects of the design and create a more suitable design for the clients.

5. Consider the bigger pictures

- I think we cannot just design for current world, and we should think ahead like 10 years, 20 years, 50 years. When we design a building, we should think the possibility for future users, or functions of the building.

I know there are more different elements of this question, but I think those five points that I listed above are more important for me when I build a practice that adapt to change. I think we all should find the passion about architecture and the goals we want from architecture, so we can produce a better service for clients. Keeping up the technology is really important element in our fields, we should our ideas through drawings, render images of the 3d model that we create. There are always new technology come out every time. I think keeping up would be a challenge but also very helpful for the practice. I do think that more design typologies can provide more services to different clients and that could create more opportunities to brand the firm. I think it is necessary that we work with different people and share our ideas to create a design that more fit to the clients needs. I agree that we should all think big and ahead when we design a building that could stay for a long time and that could also give us a flexibility for future use and future users.
