Lessons learned

"Our major projects and consistent clients are our revenue stream that allows us to chase other projects that make us happy. We gotta keep these guys happy," Luke had said during the weekly meeting. I learned about the importance of having a stream of projects in the pipeline to keep the firm up and running. It is not always possible to chase perfection, or the ideal client if you want to run a successful firm.

The last two days were especially insightful. During the midterm conference with Ashley and Luke, I learned about the possible opportunities and areas of personal growth. During another chat with Luke, I also learned a lot about how accountability may be challenged in practice.

Other highlights of the week:

— learning to draw a foundation plan and an elevation for a building on piers

— calculating the number of boards required to build some furniture: not a simple matter of dividing the furniture's total square footage by the board area, due to the wastage involved
