Tyler McKenzie - Week 9

This week I gained a whole new respect for architects and some of the daunting things they are required to do on projects. On Tuesday the office had a lunch and learn on our spec writing program. I have always heard of specs but this was my first up-close and personal introduction to what they are and how they are organized. The program helped to facilitate the organization of the specs but it was very apparent that the architect must been very knowledgeable about all the parts that they are specifying. From this meeting I also learned that there are architects that specialize in spec writing and I don't think I will ever have the desire to do that as it seems like the driest work. Additionally this week I ran into my first "writers block" on a project in the schematic design phase. I have been working on the project for roughly three weeks and haven't been able to come to solution that my principles and I can agree on. Being in an office throughout the day also does not really allow one to simply step away from a project and come back to it later which I have always found to be the best solution.
