Tyler McKenzie - Week 7

Last week I realized just how liable an architect is for the work of the contractor. This week the epiphany for me is similar but relates more to the accountability of the architect in relation to the client. My principal told me of her dealings with an overzealous client that had repeatedly tried to to circumvent the standard order of doing things and how she avoided the liability of the work that was done. As a student I have heard many stories of contractors not properly doing things on the job site but never of a client, until now. We as architects must have the integrity to not allow a client to do such things, not only because of the possible liability that could fall on our shoulders but also because of our responsibility to promote the general well being of the public through our buildings. If a client cannot accept the thorough and sometimes lengthy process that comes with doing what we do then they are most likely not a client worth having.
