Tyler McKenzie - Week 10

The highlight of my week at work was getting to build a mockup of a wind vane/kinetic metal sculpture for a tower that I am designing. I have always built models and mockups out of chipboard or wood so getting to learn how to model with copper and solder it together was a new and valuable experience. I already understand the value of mockup but this experience taught me how important it is to stay true to the materiality of design when mocking it up. Had the mockup not been made of metal it would not have turned as it needed to and would not have had the same appearance aesthetically. Another realization from this week is how busy architects are. People tend to think that architects just sit on computers all day but between delivering and picking up samples and going to client meetings it seems to me that there really isn't that much time to sit down and flesh out designs as one might think.
