Perry Hammond - Week Two

This week was my first full week at MPS and it was full of progress, problem solving, and focused work. I made significant progress on the 667 King Street site model. It has been neat to get to directly apply a tactile skill developed in architecture school while in the office. And I know there are many more things about buildings that I do not know than what I do, but model making is something I have confidence in, so being able to use my skills in this way is rewarding. The other people working on this project team have been very encouraging and helpful. They have taught me a lot just by filling me in on this project, the stage its in, and what challenges it has faced and currently faces. One big lesson I learned this week is that architects and architecture firms frequently have to risk time, money, effort, etc. in order to receive work. This project may get denied by the BAR in which case progress would slow and schedule would change. But it seems that is just part of it.
