Perry Hammond - Week Seven

I continued work on the Citadel Mall Redevelopment this week. It has been fast paced and exciting. I even got to add some of my own design ideas into the project! Two of us have basically been massing, articulating (to a degree), and modeling 10-12 different buildings and vast amounts of site design all at once. A big lesson I have learned this week is to know how much to show. Since this masterplanning project is in the very much schematic, 'dream-big' phase, we want to avoid showing too much to the client. Instead, Tom and Laura have made it a point to make sure what we produce is more of a suggestion of a possibility. The point we are trying to make is that this site has potential and MPS can help you realize this potential. I worked alongside Laura a lot this week and she has been a wonderful helper and leader.I have gain a lot from talking to her. I was almost constantly working between Sketchup, Revit, and Lumion, so my digital modeling skills benefitted greatly this week. I learned that sometimes when you have a tight deadline, everything cannot be totally perfect and you have to set your priorities and stay on track.

Pictured here is a sketch (and subsequent digital model) I made when figuring out the layout of a plaza area. There is a central water feature with oblong nodes of planting adjacent. Laura and I also worked together to come up with a canopy, curving in plan, that carries the same language as the surrounding proposed buildings.
