Perry Hammond - Week Four

Hurricane Irma made for an interesting weekend and beginning to the week. I came back down to Charleston in time to work Wednesday and Thursday. Our office and everyone made it through without major impact. The Hurricane was an eye-opener to me about how powerful nature can be. And how no matter how hard we try, we will never be able to control or overpower the environment around us. I think as designer or architects, we can convince ourselves that we are in control, but we rarely really are. No matter how elegant one shadow line cast by a bracketed eave is, a hurricane will not change path to avoid destroying it. So, this week I think I learned more from the hurricane than anything - it kept things in perspective. I am grateful for its minimal impact on SC and feel for those that were not as fortunate.

The days I was in the office, though, I got to jump in a quick task for a nursing home. I have never worked on a healthcare project, nor done much programming work so this was a great learning opportunity.
