This week I learned that you can't base your design solutions strictly on what you observe in a neighborhood, but you have to listen to what the residents need. In our meeting with Su Griffin from the city, she clued us in on what exactly the residents of the upper east side neighborhood on the peninsula need because she has personally gotten phone calls from people voicing their concerns. This gave us a much better idea on what kind of strategies we can implement in our designs to improve the area. One of the things we talked about in the meeting is the issue of zoning and if the current zoning is accurate to what residents believe to be their neighborhood. Attached is an image showing the current zoning of the upper east side neighborhood.
