I learned a lot about historic preservation this week, also I learned a lot about maximum railing widths (4") so that a ball can't fit through (size of a baby's head). To the insurance companies it doesn't matter AT ALL that the house is a historic registered house, and if they feel that the house is unsafe, they will pull the home insurance if you don't make it safe - which is what is happening with the historic Pinckney Residence in Charleston.
