Jennifer imparted to me her involvement in a project near her heart today. Collaboration however turned into the key yet most difficult part of this undertaking. Supposedly, the client had come to our office just about 2 years back in the wake of collecting a pack of abutting plots at the intersection of the Spring Road. He needed us to propose a multiuse residential building considering as a top priority the new zoning directions. Since the site was a gathering of different littler plots and was right at the intersection it was an extremely odd shape to begin with. All through the way toward building up the vision that the Design group and the Client had never truly got affirmed by the BAR at the very conceptual stage based on the fenestration and street use decisions. The Design team as a result had to Collaborate intimately with the city designer for several months to accomplish the fenestration desire by the BAR. Just the concept got approved after about 3 to 4 proposition. The other challenge was that the site was in a 2 hour fire rating zone and the Client needed to have a wood confining development to spare cost. The design team again needed to team up at an alternate level with the structural engineer and the wood institute to accomplish the coveted fire security standards. Post this once the whole procedure was finished and they were able to finish a complete working set of drawings for the construction, the client got depleted of the assets and the venture halted.

Today after almost 10 months of the project being put on hold, the client wants the architects to think about the design from another point of view with an alternate use as he feels that the residential use does not give the best return of speculation. The whole procedure needs to begin once more. With a substantial heart she and the whole team today need to acknowledge that in the wake of experiencing all the broad shared process the task won't not get assembled or else should be rebuilt and restatergized once more As she puts it "We are proposing a renovation to a building which never got constructed as we dare not change the skin approved by the BAR after so much effort". Changing the typology of the building may result in the change of structural choice and therefore a new process of Collaboration.
Looking at the core values listed by the NCARB Mission I feel most of these are compromised more than enough in our practice on a regular basis. Architecture by virtue is a profession which solely depends on the Client and availability of the funds in most case scenario. 5 out of 10 projects on a good day are put on hold at the very later stage in most offices. Coordinated effort by definition is "the activity of working with somebody to deliver or make something" and more trains and partners engaged with the venture, the more open doors for disconnects when proper planning is neglected. When you work so hard at such a large number of various levels to accomplish a fruitful undertaking it is terrible to be put on hold and restart the broad joint effort process once more. It is unquestionably a CHALLENGE!!
